Life always takes a turn, roundabouts, and the main goal is to not drive off a cliff. Thank goodness, I didn’t drive off a cliff but it has been a challenge to bounce back from everything.
Basically, all you need to know is that my personal life got in the way again and there’s a series of things not going my way …but isn’t that just life?
Fast forward to what you really want to know, did this effect my Instagram?
Of course it did!
When it took my “break,” I actually lost followers and engagement.
You might be asking yourself, “Mandy, did that hurt your business and are you worried?”
To be honest, nope.
Instagram is only a marketing tool for me. I use to it to tell my story and to create a connection with my followers and readers. It is NOT the only thing that I use to help me attract clients and land new projects.
Simple and Pretty Co. help other brands create content, tell a story and build relationships. Although social media is a huge part of my company, I create content in other ways.
Recently, I took on a project to create a website for a local company and it has been so much fun! I have been able to work with my client and create something that they will be proud of and can’t wait to showcase it to everyone!
Did this project and life turns take away from my Instagram? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes.
This project has allowed me to do what I absolutely love; telling a story and brand consulting.
I think we have to remember that Instagram is not sustainable. It should be looked at as a tool for brands to create connections with their customers. It should be used to create a smaller communication gap between customers and the brands.
The best part is that I think I only lost about 30 followers. The reason why I didn’t loose so much is because I make sure that I am always building a relationship with those who follows me. It’s important to understand that Instagram is a GREAT communication tool. Even though my follower counts and photo engagement has been down, my conversations have been consistent and those who truly want to follow me are the ones I want to keep around anyways.
Was taking a break worth it? Absolutely.
Taking this break allowed me step away from negativity and allowed me to clear my head. Although I didn’t want to take this break, my personal life was saying that it was time to have a small “detox.” It just made me realize the main reason why I use Instagram and that is to create relationships.
