It’s here! My birthday month had finally arrived but before I can celebrate, I need to get to party planning.
I feel leaving your 20s, you kind of get the pressure of doing it big. I have no idea how we got conditioned that we have to go to Vegas and drink our life away just to crawl back on the plan with a massive hangover. I have decided! We are having the ultimate adult birthday party!
I’ll break down the complete checklist of what you will need to plan for your next celebration plus a FREEBIE at the end.
When brain storming, I wasn’t sure where I should have the party. I feel like I’m always at a different restaurant every week, I wanted my friends to feel like they could mingle with each other but not feel awkward. I also wanted a pool party because it screams summer and since I’m leaving my youth behind, I want to do it right.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when picking a location:
Visualize your party/ Play your party out in your head
What kind of experience do you want your guests to have?
What location is going to support your party?
Since I wanted my guests to feel like they are walking into a luxurious, able to play games, and just relax, I decided the location was going to be at one of my best friend’s house.
On the phone with my mom, I told her…. “I need to do something crazy because it’s my last day in my 20s.” Of course, my mom had to kick me back to reality and said, “Your life is already crazy, you own your own business. It doesn’t have to be big, just fun.”
When I asked you to visualize your party, what did you see? Then build your theme around it.
I saw people in the pool swimming, having drinks, eating some small bites, maybe taking shots, admiring the pretty cake and playing games! Plus I kept seeing unicorn floaties. Like giant ones!
Then it hit me. An elegant unicorn themed big kid birthday party.
You want your party to be a reflection of you. If you want fancy, do fancy. If you want to have it low key… do it!
Just do you! It’s your party.
You got the date. You got the time. Now it’s time to make your invitation. We are adults! Do we really need invitations? UM YES! That’s a lot of people you are coordinating with and it’s just easier to say everything at once.
I use canva.com to create my invitation and it’s FREE. There’s so many amazing templets you can use to build your perfect invites.
This is my invitation:
Cake or Dessert
When there’s a birthday party, there needs to be cake…or some kind of sweets! I’ve decided to find someone who can create something spectacular.
When working with someone, it’s really important to give visuals, explain your theme, and tell your dessert maker exactly what you want.
Petals and Sugar has been so kind enough to create a beautiful desert tray in a 30 shape. Once I told her exactly what I wanted, she went to work to find me inspiration photos. She creates unique sweets and is located in Sarasota, Florida. She’s a little far from Naples, but we had her at our #SIPANDMINGLE Sarasota Edition and OMGGGGG! Her treats are amazing. I don’t want to ruin the surprise so I’m going to wait until the final product comes. You can see her work on her Instagram: @PetalandSugar.
How many times have you gone to a party and all you do is drink?
For my party, I’m adding some games to make sure the guests are entertained from start to finish. Here are some game ideas with an adult twist:
Twister- every time someone is out, they have to take a shot
Scavenger Hunt Janga- a piece give your a task. example: take a photo with the person on your left.
Timed Connect Four: have a timer set for two minutes and the players have to try to win in within the time frame.
Decorations and Photo Wall
Honestly as adults, we don’t need to go overboard with decorations. Instead, we have decided put the details in the desserts, create a photo wall and add floaties in the pool. Make it easy for clean up time!
Here are ideas to spruce up your pool:
It’s time to celebrate! The planning process should be fun, easy, and be reflection of you. Hopefully these ideas are super helpful when you are planning your next celebration. Although it’s my birthday, I want to give you a gift…. because I love you.
I’ve created a checklist for you to help you plan the ultimate party!
