Hey Influencer! How are you doing? With so much going on in the news, I’m sure you just want to take a minute to breathe, have a glass a wine, and just chill the F* out. Oh…did I mention it’s only 7:35 a.m. as I’m writing this? Yeah lately, I feel like the world as a whole is extremely tired which is leading to a lack of motivation but I’m here to tell you to WAKE UP!
If you’re an influencer, content creator, copywriter, it’s time to listen up because I have some really good tips to help you out if you’re tired of getting free stuff and just want to get paid.
Let me talk about my backstory just incase you are new here. If you’re not, thanks for hanging out on the blog and taking the time to read my stuff. Love you forever and always for it.
Some of you might know, I’ve decided to walk away from working on sponsored content because I want to help the next group of Influencers to share their stories and help guide you to start creating meaningful content.
During my days of “Influencing” the traditional way; getting paid for posting on Instagram, writing blog posts about products, and going to events, it involved a lot of hard work but honestly, for working only two hours on a project creating and getting paid $450 for a post, it wasn’t a bad life at all.
I know right, $450 for an Instagram post? Yep it’s true. Slide into my DMs and I will show you.
But it took a lot of hard work. Actually 3 years before I could start monetizing my social platforms but it was worth it.
The Work You Didn’t See
The best way I can describe digital marketing is it’s just networking on the internet. I started to build by following back in 2015 and that meant, building real relationships with people I didn’t know. I still do the same practice today where I would take the time to engage my audience. see how they are doing, and just start becoming friends. Just like any relationship, it took hours. I was able to grow my page from 600 followers to 10K in 8 months so you can imagine me making meaningful relationships with people constantly and although I loved it, I did end up getting dumped because I was too young to know what time management meant. Poor guy. But I’m engaged to an amazing person plus I’ve grown from that experience. Anyways…
My point is before thinking about trying to monetizing social or your blog, I want you to really ask yourself if you are building real relationships on your all of your platforms.
HELPFUL TIPS (WRITE THIS DOWN): Dm 5 of your followers just to spark up a conversation. Don’t expect anything back. Just say hi.
My Secret Sauce
My connection with my followers is what gave me the edge I needed to pitch to brands. Just like how your IRL relationships do not grow overnight, so does your relationship with your followers. It takes time. By having a great relationship with my now friends not followers. Calling others your followers is so belittling. Can we as a whole try not to use that term anymore?
P.S. I have a blog post coming up chatting about how to grow your following on IG but really, it’s how to grow your influence. Stay tune for that. Need this next article? Enter your email here.
When pitching to brands, I was able to use data to help me create leverage because my friends felt comfortable giving me their feedback. This is what brands love to see because you have to understand. You are an ROI- Return on Investment – and they are taking a chance on you in hopes you are going to make them money with your content.
Did I just blow your mind a little. Well let’s keep going.
